Spirit Fingers and Books, Wonderful Books
Today was a good day.
The Box Full of Random Junk
First, I was late to work. I had to take a round-about way to get gas. See, there’s this big creeper at the gas station at the exit to 295. I had to avoid that.
Anyway, I made it to work. (HOUR COMMUTE
) I parked in the garage and made my way up Witherspoon Street (Princeton) carrying my big honkin purple Coach purse, my floral bag full of miscellaneous notebooks and a GIGANTIC box. What’s up with the box? Well, we had our department holiday party today and Jessica and I – aka the “Spirit Fingers Commitee” – thought it would be a good idea to hand out miscellaneous-sized boxes and tell people to fill them with whatever they wanted. I wish I had that Total Cereal Box or the Apple Laptop box. Nope, I had a moving box.
AND the moving box was full of crappy stuff. I just didn’t have time to get anything good, so I grabbed random things from around the house. In fact, I tried to take a few things from my parent’s (I was there for dinner and wedding talk) - like some light-up spinning disco ball. Apparently, my nieces love it, so that was out. Anyway, this was what was in the box:
- A leopard bamboo table runner
- Three books – one about Feng Sui; Eat This, Not That; and an appetizer recipe book that my old work gave me for Christmas three years ago
- A plastic flip-top snack holder
- A wind-up mechanical muscle man
- Feng Sui candles
In return, I got a medium size box filled with two picture frames and an electric drill.
The party was cool and fun. I ate too much. Right before we did the presents, I played “Double Dutch Bus.” That’s kinda the new thing now. Double Dutch Bus and randomness.
Off to City Fitness
I did my usual hour commute to Philly and I taught my Tuesday 6:30 “Cardio Turbo Mix” class – a kickboxing, plyometrics, toning mish-mash.
Books and Friends

- Work by Brian Belott, part of the “book/////shelf” exhibition at the MoMA.
On the way home, I stopped by Barnes and Noble. I just “needed” some kind of wedding planner. Just another piece of wedding advice that I picked up from friends … and I needed it immediately. That’s how I am. I get an idea in my head and I MUST DO IT. EAT IT. GET IT, whatever.
While I was there, I realized that this is the best time to get some great inspiration. You know, those holiday ”gift books” or whatever? I’ve scored big in this section in the past. (BTW, I have a hard time reading real books. Like Malcolm Caldwell is great and everything, but I just can’t get into his writing style. I much prefer a little Mitch Albom, actually.) I got some good stuff …
Over in the bridal section, there were a bunch of planners. I narrowed it down to four. I chose based on the size, binding, cover and the content. I ended up with The Knot Book of Wedding Lists. I figured that if I’m using theknot.com, this would work best.
So I’m spread out in the aisle and here comes Lindsay and Kathy! My buds! Horray! We talk and catch up and it’s great
I tell them how I want two roasted pigs at the wedding and they get PUMPED UP!
Finally, I have to leave the bookstore. This is what I got:
- Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff … and it’s all small stuff
- The Don’t Sweat Guide for Weddings
- 10 Neat Things About Being a Flower Girl
- The Knot Book of Wedding Lists
- Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine
- Real Simple Wedding 2009 Magazine
- 365 Dalai Lama – Daily From the Heart
- Men’s Health Magazine
- Men’s Fitness Magazine
- Eats Shoots & Leaves Desk Calendar
- Little Gifts of Kindness Desk Calendar
